Audition Workshop

Ever wanted to try out for a show but didn’t know where to start? Would you like to move from ensemble parts to featured roles? Are you a veteran performer looking to improve your audition technique?

This workshop is for you!

Experienced directors and actors will share tips and techniques, guide you through a practice audition, and offer feedback. We will cover plays and musicals, but will only practice auditioning for plays.

The workshop is open to school age and up actors of all levels. There will be a separate track for younger performers.

The workshop is free and will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at Cottage Street Creative Exchange, 13 Cottage Street, Norway. Registration will begin at 12:30. If possible, please pre-register using this form.

Meet the Panelists

...

Sally Jones has deep theater roots in the Oxford Hills. She has been acting in and directing shows in the Hills for many years. You may have seen her in Arsenic and Old Lace in 2003 or On Golden Pond in 2015, or in many shows between. Among others for OHMPAA, she helmed Man of La Mancha and The Road to Eden's Ridge. Sally's embodiment of Margaret Chase Smith graced many venues around the state. More recently she founded the Library Players and is presenting story shows around the area.

Kristen Short has more than 20 years of peforming experience. She released five original CDs on the Sea Siren label. Kristen has performed in and produced community theater and also directed youth theater and music for the Boxberry School. She has additional production experience on both the technical and marketing sides. Kristen is our youth theater panelist for this workshop.

Jamie Lupien Swenson is a graduate of Westminster Choir College, a music conservatory in Princeton, NJ. She holds a bachelors degree in Music Education and Voice. She has been teaching private voice lessons and musical theater classes for the past 11 years. She's taught classes for The Children's Theater of Maine, Stages, The Portland Players, Lyric Music Theater and at local schools. Jamie is currently the Vocal and General Music Instructor at Memorial and Mahoney Middle Schools in South Portland. Some of her favorite performing experiences has been touring the US as a part of The Royal Christmas Tour starring Andrea Bocelli and singing in PBS's "Great Performances"- Candide in Concert starring Kristen Chenoweth. Locally Jamie has performed with The Portland Players, Lyric Music Theater, Boothbay Playhouse, The Children's Theater, and City Theater.

Ethan Wright teaches instrumental and choral music at Buckfield Jr./Sr. High School. He received his bachelors degree in Music Education from the University of Southern Maine and his Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Lesley University. During his time at USM Ethan travelled on two European tours as a member of the USM chamber singers and performed the role of Tony in USM’s production of West Side Story. In addition to teaching music, Ethan is the director of the Theatre Department at Buckfield Jr./Sr. High School and started the Nezinscot Valley Community Theatre which will begin its 6th season this summer.
